ABOUT SSL CERTIFICATES

High Visibilty Clothing

Do you or your employees work near vehicular traffic? Then they must wear high visibility clothing so that they can be seen by motorists. The ANSI/ISEA 107-2004 standard is the first uniform, authoritative guide for the design, performance specifications, and use of high-visibility and reflective clothing for employees.

High-visibility safety clothing is personal protective safety clothing that is intended to provide conspicuity [make the wearer more visible] during both daytime and nighttime usage, and that meets the Performance Class 2 or 3 requirements of American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/ International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) 107-2004.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has recently taken a greater interest in high visibility safety clothing and the work situations in which it should be worn. There have been organizations that have already been cited under 29CFR 1910.132 for not having their workers wear high visibilty clothing that ensured their conspicuity and/or visibility. In the citations, OSHA named compliance with the ANSI/ISEA 107-2004 standard for high-visibility safety clothing as a method to ensure visibility of workers from all directions under adverse lighting conditions.

Nighttime construction has heightened the probability that workers will be struck by a motor vehicle. Crews working between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. are three times more likely to be hit by a moving vehicle and 25% of all fatal accidents occur during this time period.

When Should High-Visibility Safety Apparel Be Replaced?
High-visibility safety clothing should be replaced when it becomes faded, torn, dirty, soiled, worn, or defaced, or if it is not visible at 1,000 feet day or night. The typical useful service life of high-visibility safety apparel depends on the type of work an individual performs while wearing the apparel. Apparel that is worn on a daily basis has a service life expectancy of approximately 6 months, although apparel that is not worn on a daily basis may have a useful service life of up to 3 years.

High Visibility Colors
Workers need a color that will help to differentiate them and make them stand out more in their environment. Bright Lime/Safety Green garments may best differentiate workers from orange colored vehicles, signs, and construction barrels; Bright Orange/Safety Orange garments may best differentiate those who work in predominately green areas.

At Safety Wear Plus, we carry the finest in High Visibilty Clothing including the following:

All the time, workers in the electrical, utility, oil, gas, petrochemical and steel industries work in environments that may expose them to extreme hazards that could cause severe or fatal burn injuries. In the event of a momentary electric arc, flash fire or molten metal splash exposure, everyday non-flame resistant work clothes can ignite and will continue to burn even after the source of ignition has been removed. Untreated natural fabrics will continue to burn until the fabric is totally consumed and non-flame resistant synthetic fabrics will burn with melting and dripping causing severe contact burns to the skin. The only answer is Bulwark Flame Resistant Protective Apparel.

High-visibility clothing, a type of personal protective equipment (PPE), is any clothing worn that has highly reflective properties or a color that is easily discernible from any background. Yellow waistcoats worn by emergency services are a common example. Part of the surface of the garment may have retroreflective stripes. This way they become much more visible in the dark for observers near a light source, such as the driver of a car with its headlights on. The pattern of the retroreflecting parts also helps to distinguish between objects and people. For greater visibility during the daytime, very bright colors are used for the main body of the garment by means of fluorescent material. A related type of PPE corresponding to maximizing visual awareness in dangerous environments is head gear mounted mirrors. They allow the wearer to see potential dangers rather than just being seen.
